Maybe she realised so from the moment they met, maybe, that they were not meant to be together. He was like a person who stepped out of every woman's fantasy, in the flesh, handsome, loving, and comes from money. She hated him for that. Not that he flaunted his wealth whenever he could, something he never did, but because everybody knows him and his family. And whenever they were spotted together in the wild, there have always been only one that occurred in everybody's mind, especially with the way they looked at her.
Look, a gold digger. Why does he choose her? I'm so much better than that bitch, was the kind of signal she always seemed to be getting. Sarah was full from eating curses. And let's not mention Richard's parents, their disappointment when he had to eventually introduced her to them, and all those not so subtle dig whenever Sarah joined their lunch or dinner.

"I'm sorry," she whispered between her sobbing breath. It was barely audible, but Richard heard her. She witnessed his dissipating smile, fading away into sadness. But she didn't feel his disappointment or resentment. Somehow he knew what she was about to say.
He sighed as he got up, and embraced her. Her tears flooded away as his arms enveloped her.
